Jay Scruggs was a student at Whittier Elementary School from second grade in 1952 through the sixth grade. In this interview, conducted by fourth-grade members of the Whittier Student Historians' Club, he describes his experiences at Whittier, including memories of his favorite teachers, descriptions of cafeteria food, and how his Whittier education got him out of a dangerous situation involving old gold mine explosives.
